Origin of the motif

At the Kaiserstuhl · Summer

Photographed by Anna Lea Theodocion in her grandmother’s garden. The starting point of the work is a white rose, which appears as a recurring motif in several of the artist’s works. For “I – Apparition,” it was removed from its original environment and placed against a muted olive-colored pictorial space. The natural form of the blossom was deliberately preserved. By reducing the surrounding environment, the gaze is directed entirely toward its bright form, forming the starting point for the “Blossom Beings” series.

About the Artist

Anna Lea Theodocion combines fine art photography with a poetic visual language. From nature, architecture, and light, she creates serene pictorial worlds of timeless presence.

More about the artist →

"I - Appearance" detaches the blossom from its natural context and allows it to emerge as an independent form. Against the deep olive background, the white rose appears almost to float, still, soft, and at the same time present.
Where botanical reality ends, a quieter contemplation begins: the blossom becomes an appearance, a form between nature, memory, and inner image. Its bright shape emerges from the surface without completely detaching from it. As the first work in the "Blossom Beings" series, "Appearance" opens a sequence in which floral motifs are not merely depicted, but conceived as silent, almost sentient counterparts.

About the Blossom Beings series

"Blossom Beings" views floral forms beyond their purely botanical appearance. Detached from their natural environment, they emerge as independent pictorial figures, between body and surface, proximity and detachment, nature and inner conception. "Appearance" forms the prelude to this series.
