Origin of the motif

At the Kaiserstuhl · Summer

Photographed by Anna Lea Theodocion at the Kaiserstuhl. The starting point of the work is a single pink rose, which was initially captured in its natural environment. For "III – Present", the blossom was detached from its original context and placed against a subdued olive-colored pictorial space. The color, posture, and openness of the rose were deliberately preserved. This reduction to a single form created that calm, immediate presence that defines the final work of the series.

About the Artist

Anna Lea Theodocion combines fine art photography with a poetic visual language. From nature, architecture, and light, she creates serene pictorial worlds of timeless presence.

“III – Present” focuses on a single blossom that seems entirely at one with itself against the deep olive background. Unlike in “Encounter,” no dialogue between two forms arises here. The rose emerges alone—composed, calm, and immediate. The blossom appears not as a symbol of transition, but as a state of being: as presence. Its rose to coral-colored petals stand out softly from the muted pictorial space. This creates a quiet counterpart that points neither to the past nor the future, but rests entirely in the moment. As the third work in the “Floral Beings” series, “Present” completes the movement from individual appearance through the encounter of two forms to a self-contained figure.

About the Floral Beings series

“Floral Beings” examines floral forms beyond their purely botanical appearance. Detached from their natural environment, they emerge as independent pictorial figures, caught between form and surface, proximity and remoteness, nature and inner vision. “Present” leads this movement to a silent condensation: the blossom no longer appears in the process of becoming or in relation to a second form, but as a counterpart that rests entirely within itself.
