Origin of the motif

At the Kaiserstuhl · Summer

Photographed by Anna Lea Theodocion at the Kaiserstuhl. The starting point of the work is a single pink rose, which was initially captured in its natural environment. For “III – Present,” the bloom was detached from its original context and placed against a muted olive-colored pictorial space. The color, posture, and openness of the rose were deliberately preserved. Through the reduction to a single form, that calm, immediate presence which characterizes the final work of the series was created.

About the Artist

Anna Lea Theodocion combines fine art photography with a poetic visual language. From nature, architecture, and light, she creates serene pictorial worlds of timeless presence.

More about the artist →

“III – Presence” focuses on a single blossom that seems entirely at one with itself against the deep olive background. Unlike in “Encounter,” no dialogue between two forms emerges here. The rose stands out alone, collected, calm, and immediate. The blossom does not appear as a symbol of transition, but as a state: as presence. Its rose to coral-colored petals stand out softly against the muted pictorial space. This creates a silent counterpart that refers neither to the past nor to the future, but rests entirely in the moment. As the third work in the “Floral Beings” series, “Presence” follows the movement from the singular appearance, through the encounter of two forms, to a figure at rest within itself.

On the series Floral Beings

“Floral Beings” examines floral forms beyond their purely botanical appearance. Detached from their natural environment, they emerge as independent pictorial figures, poised between body and surface, proximity and detachment, nature and inner imagination. “Presence” leads this movement toward a silent condensation: the blossom no longer appears in a state of becoming or in relation to a second form, but as a counterpart entirely at rest within itself.
