Origin of the motif

At the Kaiserstuhl · Summer

Photographed by Anna Lea Theodocion in her grandmother’s garden. The starting point of the work is a white rose, which appears as a recurring motif in several of the artist’s pieces. For "I – Appearance", it was detached from its original environment and placed in front of a subdued olive-colored pictorial space. The natural form of the blossom was deliberately preserved. By reducing the surrounding environment, the focus is directed entirely toward its bright form, serving as the starting point for the "Blossom Beings" series.

About the Artist

Anna Lea Theodocion combines fine art photography with a poetic visual language. From nature, architecture, and light, she creates serene pictorial worlds of timeless presence.

More about the artist →

"I - Erscheinung" (Appearance) detaches the flower from its natural context, allowing it to emerge as an independent form. Set against the deep olive background, the white rose appears almost to float—silent, soft, and yet present.
Where botanical reality ends, a quieter contemplation begins: the blossom becomes an apparition, a form existing between nature, memory, and inner image. Its luminous shape emerges from the surface without fully detaching from it. As the first work in the "Blütenwesen" (Floral Beings) series, "Erscheinung" initiates a sequence in which floral motifs are not merely depicted, but conceived as quiet, almost sentient counterparts.

On the Blütenwesen Series

"Blütenwesen" examines floral forms beyond their purely botanical appearance. Removed from their natural environment, they emerge as independent pictorial figures, existing between body and surface, proximity and detachment, nature and inner vision. "Erscheinung" serves as the prelude to this series.
